We have plans to change this - no time line yet First, the LocalGatewayAllocator is slow. The indexing strategy is basically each application creates an index per day, and the beats modules are all creating 1 index per day each, we create approx indices per day, some are in the 10's of GB's range, others are much smaller. Relates to Second, setting the indices refresh rate to -1 and replica level to 0 while in bulk indexing mode helps a lot for performance. Get started.

We are seeing a slow down in shard initialization speed as the number of shards/indices grows in our cluster. With 's of indices/shards.I dont know if I'm going to tell the intern about it or not, I just casually asked her to update that block of code and redeploy

Could this slow down indexing b/c the cluster is also busying trying to initialize shards? Is there a way to determine if the shard has.Shard Initialization slow down Elastic Stack Elasticsearch.

I had a node restart, not unusual, but initializing the shards has been very slow. More than once, I've seen an index initial all of its. What version are you running?

When relocating/initializing 3 or more shards, ES is overloaded, Elasticsearch seems to be "overloaded" (REST APIs are very slow.In the following, I will detail why this is the case for our setup.

We followed the tutorial for rolling restarts in Elasticsearch to this node which further slows the process of initializing the shards. Here, these 15m are after the nodes have joined, so yes the master reports the correct number of nodes.

Ensure the primaries are balanced over all the nodes so the recovery load is well distributed. · Recover only one-shard-per-node-at-a-time, only.I did set it to 1 yesterday but did not notice any change.

We have about indexes, 20k shards and over nodes in our cluster. slow at startup time and as long as there are many unassigned shards still to.Typically, when a node receives a search request, it needs to communicate that request to a copy either primary or replica of every shard in the index.

Check any of the monitoring tools outlined here for unusual changes in performance metrics that may have occurred around the same time the node failed, such as a sudden spike in the current rate of search or indexing requests.

To do so the nodes need some information that's part of the cluster state and if the don't have it they respond with "I don't know yet".

forum? This is the best thing to try: Look at how fast your recoveries can actually go and then set the limit a bit lower so they're not completely saturating your disks and the throttle is doing its job.Forum Elasticsearch initializing shards slow

You will also need to make sure that your indices have enough primary shards to be able to balance their data across all those nodes.

I still think you should set this to the default or maybe even 1 to allow your cluster to stabilise in a more controlled fashion.
